Lake Pape (Papes ezers) is a lake in Latvia . It is located 15 km south of Liepāja . Around the lake is the Pape nature reserve .
Lake and surroundings
In Pape Nature Reserve life-sized herds of wild Konik horses , bison and Heck cattle , the latter is a breeding back the extinct aurochs. Since human intervention is not desired in the nature reserve and the behavior of the animals should not be influenced, a very well camouflaged tower was built in the park, which is used as a bird observation post. The area itself may not be accessed by car, but exploration on foot, by bike or in a boat is permitted.
In order to make Lake Pape and its surroundings accessible to visitors, hikers and nature lovers, nature trails were laid out around the lake over a total length of 30 kilometers.
Culture
A lot is being done around Lake Pape when it comes to culture. Hikers and cyclists can use the network of trails to visit the area. The visitors are moderated to individual, interesting stations, which are located at regular intervals on the hiking trails. The lake itself can also be explored. Canoe trips , which are offered in summer, are particularly popular here . Also swimming and fishing is permitted in some places.
The bird-watching tower, as well as the surrounding meadows, dunes, pine and spruce groves and a lighthouse are popular excursion destinations.
