Papenkaule

The Papenkaule (in dialect Papenkaul called) is the dry crater , which a volcanic explosion in for about 10,000 years ago Gerolsteiner Kalkmulde belonging dolomite north of Munterley of Gerolstein / Eifel blew.

The lava released after the explosion did not flow from the chimney of the Papenkaule, but appeared west of it in the Hagelskaule and flowed southwards as a Sarresdorf lava flow into the Kylltal . Since the dolomite in the subsoil of the Papenkaule is permeable to water, no crater lake could form.
