features

The moths reach a wingspan of 100 to 130 millimeters. The front wings have a black basic color. In the lower half of the middle part there is a yellow band, through which, however, black veins run. Between the end of this bandage and the leading edge there is a very large arched spot in the disk region . A few centimeters from the apex there are three relatively small yellow spots from the front edge to the outer edge. The hind wings also have a black basic color and have a yellow band in the middle part of the wing as a continuation of the band of the forewing. The outer edge has no tail process.

The underside of the forewings is black and has all the characteristics of the upper side. In addition, except for the cell, the region around the body is now light yellow. In the cell there are several yellow lines starting from the body. The underside of the hind wings is also black and has all the characteristics of the upper side. The entire region around the body is colored light yellow. The yellow band is now one to two centimeters wider. In this area there is a black eye with a yellow and orange border on the front edge. There is a short blue line near the yellow area and near the inner edge. In the submarginal region there is a zigzag line that merges into the yellow area. This is yellow, but becomes increasingly orange towards the inner edge. The wavy outer edge is checked in black and white.

The two sexes do not differ in the wing markings and in the body, which is completely black on the top and completely yellow on the underside.
