Papyrus collection of the Montserrat monastery

The papyrus collection of the Montserrat Monastery is a collection of over 1700 fragments of papyri and parchment manuscripts from the 3rd to 10th centuries mostly in Greek , but also in Coptic , Demotic , Arabic and Latin languages . It is located in the Scriptorium Biblicum et Orientale of the Montserrat monastery near Barcelona .

In 1928 the biblical theologian Father Bonaventura Ubach brought 200 papyrus fragments from Egypt and founded the first private papyrus collection in Spain in the monastery. In 1998 the theologian Father Ramón Roca-Puig brought his extensive collection Collecció Sant-Lluca Evangelista with over 1500 fragments to the monastery. This contains some important New and Old Testament papyri from the 3rd and 4th centuries. After his death in 2001 this was transferred to the inventory of the Scriptorium as Papyri Montserratenses-Roca (P. Monts. Roca) .
