Paracusis

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The paracusis denotes a wrong acoustic perception. There are different forms of paracusis:

  • Paracusis loci : a disturbance of spatial hearing and the wrong localization of the sound source ;
  • Paracusis duplicata or diplakusis, double hearing: a tone is heard normally with one ear, higher or lower with the other, diseased ear, e.g. B. in Menière's disease (Menière's disease)
  • Paracusis willisii : spoken words are better understood when there is noise at the same time by blocking out the background noise, e.g. B. in otosclerosis ;
  • Paracusis tonalis

history

The Parakusis was first described in 1672 by Thomas Willis in the 14th chapter of his work De anima brutorum . The Paracusis willisii is named after him. This paracusis was researched in the 20th century by Somerville Hastings and Gordon Scarff, among others, who used a Tucker audiometer . More recent research has been carried out in Leiden .
