The Paralipsa Gularis ( Paralipsa gularis ) is a butterfly ( moth ) from the subfamily of the wax moth (Galleriinae) within the family of corn borer (Pyralidae).
features
The moths reach a wingspan of 21 to 32 millimeters. The two sexes are dimorphic. The females have brown forewings with a distinctive, large brown point around the middle of the wing. The front wings of the males have a similar brown color, but the brown spots are much smaller. They also have an orange-rusted zigzag line near the inner edge of the fore wing.
Flight and caterpillar times
Several generations can occur depending on the temperature. However, the species is rare in Central Europe and can only survive in heated buildings in winter.
Way of life
The caterpillar feeds on plant seeds, grain and nuts.
Harmful effect
The species was originally native to East Asia and was introduced to Europe. The caterpillars can cause considerable damage by drilling into or eating dried nuts and grain .
