Parashara

Parashara ( Sanskrit पराशर parāśara m. ) Was a Vedic Rishi and father of Vyasa . He is considered to be the author of several hymns in the Rig Veda and the Vishnu Purana .

life and work

According to Nirukta, a script of the grammarist Yaska , Parashara was the son of Vasishtha , but in the Mahabharata and Vishnu Purana he appears as the son of Saktris and grandson of Vasishtha. It is said that he was a disciple of Kapila , wrote some hymns of the Rig Veda and received the Vishnu Purana from Pulastya . He also wrote about the Dharmashastra , and texts by him are often quoted in works of law. During a brief encounter with Satyavati , he became the father of Vyasa.
