Parasitemia

Parasitaemia is the presence of parasites in the blood . It is irrelevant whether signs of illness are noticeable at the same time or not. Parasitemia can, for example, be caused by an infection with Plasmodium falciparum , the causative agent of tropica malaria .

Parasitemia equivalents are bacteremia due to bacteria and viraemia due to viruses.
