The Parc de Bercy is a 14 hectare park in the 12th arrondissement of Paris . It is bordered to the north by the AccorHotels Arena and to the south by the Bercy Village adventure center .

history

The 14 hectare park was created between 1993 and 1997 in Bercy , a district in the east of Paris, which, located directly on the Seine , was once one of the largest wine markets in the world. After the quarter became more and more neglected, it was decided at the beginning of the 80s to make massive redesigns. The centerpiece today is the new Park de Bercy. The winners of the international competition, the architects Bernard Huet, Madeleine Ferrand, Jean-Pierre Feugas and Bernard Leroy in collaboration with the landscape architects Ian Le Caisne and Philippe Raguin initially called their design "Jardins de la Memoire" (Gardens of Memory). In the past, the wine stores of the French monarchs, the Parisian aristocracy and the market halls of the wine trade were located here . This aspect was retained in the park design .

Close to the park on the opposite side of the Seine is the French National Library , which can be easily reached from the cascades in the center of the park via the cantilevered Beauvaoir footbridge .

The three parks

The Parc de Bercy consists of three separate areas: the large meadows (French: les Grandes Prairies ), the flower beds (French: les Parterres ) and the romantic garden (French: le Jardin romantique ).
