The Juliusza Słowackiego Park is a green area in the eastern inner city of Wroclaw . It is named after the Polish poet Juliusz Słowacki .

location

The park is located east of the old town of Wroclaw and south of the cathedral island. It is surrounded by four roads: Andrzeja Frycza Modrzewskiego Street , Jana Ewangelisty Purkyniego Street , Juliusza Słowackiego Allee and Plac Powstańców Warszawy . Today there are important cultural buildings on the park itself, such as the National Museum , the Racławice Panorama , the Bernardine Monastery (now used by the Architecture Museum ) and the city's post office.

history

The 5.74 hectare green area was created in the second half of the 19th century. In 1866 the park was laid out on the area of ​​the filled-in Ohle (pl. Oława ).

Several buildings were built around the park in the 19th century, including what is now the National Museum . Many of them were destroyed in World War II. As a result, the park was expanded after the war. Between 1961 and 1967 the Racławice Panorama was built in the northern part of the park . In 1979 the sculpture group Expectation (Polish: Oczekiwanie ) was added, in 1984 the monument to Juliusz Słowacki. In 2000 the memorial to the victims of the Katyn massacre was unveiled.

Today you can find a large number of different plant and animal species in the park.
