Sign 630: parking warning sign (Germany)

Under the term “parking warning sign”, sign 630 was published in the Federal Law Gazette with the ninth ordinance amending the road traffic regulations (StVO) of March 22, 1988 and became legally valid from October 1, 1988. Parking signs are particularly relevant for trailers . According to Section 17 (4) sentence 3 of the Road Traffic Regulations, vehicles with a permissible total weight of more than 3.5 t and trailers that are parked in urban areas must always be identified with their own light source ( i.e. parking light ) or with an approved lighting device Parking warning signs in accordance with Section 51c Paragraph 5 StVZO also belong.

The appearance of the parking warning sign is stipulated in the StVO (sign 630). The parking warning sign is to be attached in such a way that the 100 mm wide diagonal strips point from the inside of the vehicle down to the road. Parking signs come in two sizes, shape A (423 × 423 mm) and shape B (282 × 282 mm).

Parking warning signs may only be attached to parked vehicles; otherwise they must be folded in while driving. They must be attached on the side facing the road, in principle both at the front and at the rear. The upper edge of the parking warning sign must not be higher than 1000 mm above the road surface and it must always be flush with the outline of the vehicle, with a tolerance of up to 100 mm inwards being permitted. Reflectors and license plates must not be covered by the parking warning sign.

Parking signs are not permitted outside built-up areas. Here trailers must have their own light source.
