history

The British Act of Parliament , which separated the colony of Victoria from New South Wales , was signed by Queen Victoria on August 5, 1850 . on July 1, 1851 its own legislation was made possible, which was approved by the Council of New South Wales. That was when the Victoria Colony was formally separated from New South Wales on the basis of the first paragraph of the law.

Even so, parliament was not set up until 1856 to begin sensible government in Victoria. Since then, the seat of Parliament has been located in Parliament House in Melbourne . The years 1901–1927 are an exception: at that time the building was used by the Federal Parliament and the Parliament of Victoria has moved into the Royal Exhibition Building .

Powers

Parliament is allowed to pass all laws for the state of Victoria in Australia . This power is subject only to the restrictions imposed by the Australian Constitution . It sets out which matters fall under Commonwealth or federal government legislation.

The party or coalition with the most votes is appointed by the Governor of Victoria to form a government. The governor of Victoria is the deputy monarch (currently Elizabeth II ) as head of state in Victoria. The governor's viceroyal duties include opening parliament and signing laws that parliament has passed.
