Parliamentary election in Nauru 2003
The parliamentary elections in Nauru in 2003 took place on May 3, 2003.
Result
They were brought forward due to the sudden death of then-incumbent President Bernard Dowiyogo . 3 of the 18 parliamentary seats went to the Naoero Amo party, the remaining 15 elected were non-party. There were three candidates for the presidential election: Ludwig Scotty , Kinza Clodumar and Derog Gioura , the interim president. After the first ballot, each candidate had six votes, resulting in a three-week political deadlock. Only when Derog Gioura was eliminated after a heart attack on May 20, Ludwig Scotty was able to win the election in the second ballot with 9 to 7 votes against Kinza Clodumar.
