Parliament Hill (London)
Parliament Hill is a hill in the south-eastern part of Hampstead Heath Park in north-west London .
The eastern section ( Highgate ) is commonly called "Parliament Hill Fields". The area's girls' school, Parliament Hill School, was named after her. Formerly known as Traitors' Hill, it got its current name during the English Civil War when it was occupied by parliamentary troops. The hill (98 m lower than most of Hampstead Heath) is not, as the name might suggest, the location of the Parliament building. This is 6 km south in Westminster , but you have a good view of it.
There is a public park around the hill, which can also be used on specially designated bike paths . The hill itself is often used to launch kites due to the favorable and relatively strong winds . When the weather is clear, it offers a view over a large part of London ( Canary Wharf , London Eye , Palace of Westminster ) and is therefore also popular with tourists. The park is accessible on foot from Hampstead (1 mile west) or Tufnell Park (1.5 km east) tube stations , but Gospel Oak station is closer.
