The Parque Eduardo VII de Inglaterra is the largest urban park in the Portuguese capital of Lisbon , it is located in the township Avenidas Novas . The park's namesake, Edward VII , visited Portugal in 1903. To symbolize the good relations between the United Kingdom and Portugal, the city council named the park unceremoniously, on April 13, 1903, after the royal visitor.

The large green area in the shape of a trapezoid has an area of 25.8 hectares and was opened at the beginning of the 20th century as a “green extension” of Avenida da Liberdade . Francisco Keil do Amaral designed the park, which adjoins the Praça Marquês de Pombal , with numerous symmetrically arranged hedges.

On the north-western side of the park is the Estufa Fria garden, which was opened in 1933 and is home to numerous exotic plants that are compatible with the Lisbon climate. Part of the facility is also the glazed Estufa Quente (“hot greenhouse”), in which tropical plants can be seen, which need warmer climatic conditions.

There is also a carp pond and a playground on the northwest side of the park. Sports events are held on the western side of the park in the Pavilhão Carlos Lopes, which opened in 1932 . At the north end of the park is a monument to the Carnation Revolution , designed by João Cutileiro .

Numerous events take place in the park throughout the year, including Feira do Livro , a regional book fair.
