Particle verb
A particle verb or particle compound is a complex verb in word formation , which is formed with a non-verbal part (for example: preposition , adjective , noun , etc.) (see: Composition ), e.g. B. on + give → give up .
In contrast to prefix formation , the non-verbal component (e.g. adjective / preposition) separates from the verb when the particle verb is moved in the sentence, e.g. B. in the second sentence of the verb . In this case, one also speaks of a Distanzkompositum (eg. Proceed → it is decided before not, but: endure → * it is him , he like everyone else ).
Combination of particles and prefixes
If particles and prefixes meet in a verb, the particle is outside the combination of prefix + verb. This case occurs e.g. B. in the formation of the participle Perfect with the prefix "overall" on die → from-ge-storben . Verbs with a prefix as a word formation element can also form a compound with a particle, e.g. B. A + be-hold → withheld .
Typical verbal particles
Typical verbal particles in German are for example (her- / back) down , (her-) an , (her- / back) up , (her- / back) out , (her-) with , (back) through , along , (against) against , home , (over / over) , (around) around , (over / over) under , (forward) , back and together .
