Peter Martin van Mytens

Peter Martin van Mytens (Mijtens) (the Elder) (* 1648 in The Hague , † 1736 in Stockholm ) was a Dutch painter .

He came from a richly branched, originally Flemish artist dynasty who had to move to Holland under Duke Alba , from where numerous members went to various European countries as court painters. His parents were Isaac Mytens (1602–66), painter in The Hague , and Hendrickje Harpers. Mytens had been based in Stockholm since 1677, where he ran a painting school and owned one of the largest collections of paintings in Sweden .

On December 4, 1681 he married Jeanne de Bruyn (* 1658 in Gorcum , Holland; † 1741). She was the daughter of the respected businessman Franz de Bruyn (son of Willem Francken de Bruyn and Jans Vroetmor) and Marije Verbeeck, whose marriage had been concluded on December 24, 1645.

On June 24, 1695 their son Martin van M (e) ytens (the younger) was born, who later became court painter at the imperial court in Vienna . Mytens was also related to the painters George Desmarées , the great-great-uncle of Hans von Marées , and Sophonias de Derichs .
