The Pashkov House ( Russian Дом Пашкова ) is a classicist building in Moscow . It is located in the historic center opposite the Borowizki Gate of the Kremlin .

history

The house was built between 1784 and 1786 as a residential building by the architect Vasily Baschenow on behalf of the retired officer. D. Pyotr Pashkov built. In 1812 it was badly damaged in the town fire during the war against Napoleon . This was followed by an incomplete renovation by the owners at the time, before the state bought the house in 1839. After extensive restoration work and renovations, he created a house for general purposes. At first it served as a noble institute and later as a high school. Then it became Moscow's first public museum. From 1925 the building housed parts of the Lenin Library (today: Russian State Library). To this day it is part of the State Library complex.

In 1992 the Russian State Bank issued a commemorative coin worth 50  rubles to honor the importance of the house . The gold of the coin has a fine weight of 38.9 carats. The diameter is 22.6 mm. Furthermore, in 1995 the Russian Post issued a stamp from the "Monuments" series with a picture of the house.
