Passion Noire (French for "dark passion") was a guitar wave formation founded in 1990 in Cologne . Until the end of the 1990s it consisted of the members Ulrike Haas (vocals), Bernd Neumann (guitar) and Peter Hennecken (bass, keyboard).

history

Ulrike Haas, who worked as a music journalist for the Kölner Stadtzeitung, was in contact with members Bernd Neumann and Peter Hennecken even before it was founded in 1990. The latter two previously played in the band "Raiding Party", whose singer threw in the towel after a while. She was replaced by Ulrike Haas, who was particularly noticeable because of her deep voice .

In 1992 the debut As Time Goes By was released . The title Sister Moon was released from this album as a limited 7-inch single. It was the best-known track that found its way to several compilations and made the band well-known abroad (e.g. France).

After the publications that followed, the music project became very quiet in the mid-1990s. In 1997 the two tracks Agony and Merry Goes Round appeared as the last signs of life. However, an official resolution is not known.

particularities

With the exception of the two singles Smell of Spring and Sister Moon , Passion Noire only released albums in the form of EPs. They did so because of the belief that many musicians filled their full-time albums with filler material rather than good songs.

The album As Time Goes By exists in a total of 3 editions:

  1. gray cover with the words Passion Noire in capital letters (1992)
  2. gray cover with a photo of nature (forest lake) and lettering in gray color (1997)
  3. colored cover with the same nature photograph (forest lake) and lettering in yellow color (200?)
