From January 27 to January 31, 2005, the world's largest meeting of pastoralists from all over the world took place in a small village called Turmi in southern Ethiopia . Cattle breeders from a total of 23 countries from four continents found their way to Turmi to discuss common problems and develop possible strategies for continuing the pastoral way of life.

This unusual dialogue was organized by the UN and the PCI. The aim of the organizers was to examine and revise the development cooperation strategies . Another declared goal of the organizers was to build a global network of pastoralists.
