Pastoral (liturgy)
The Pastorale is a handbook for diaconal workers and clergy that is used in practical pastoral care . The pastoral contains small devotions , short liturgies , prayers , intercessions , Bible words and blessings for different situations. It is used in the evangelical church . In the Catholic Church the equivalent Pastorale roughly the Benedictional .
History and meaning
The Evangelical Pastorale was reissued for the first time by the Lutheran Liturgical Conference in 1981 and has since appeared in many editions. It fulfills its task at the interface between pastoral care, diakonia and liturgy. The Evangelical Pastoral is described in the foreword as “a handout for pastoral care” and contains biblical calls to prayer and words of comfort. The pastoral helps pastoral workers in the encounter with old, sick, dying and grieving people. Instructions and formulations for emergency baptism , the evening meal and prayer in the mourning house support pastoral or diaconal action. Pastoral support for meeting people who have had an accident gives orientation in difficult situations. Bierlein’s work also includes volunteer workers who stand by a sick bed or are involved in pastoral care for the elderly and experience nights “where faith gives way”.
Ecumenism
In the Catholic Church , the official liturgical book that specifically contains rites of blessing is called Benediction . The Orthodox Church , the Roman Catholic Church and the Protestant Churches have now published a joint book that comes close to the objective concern of the Protestant pastoral . It is the ecumenical prayer book You in our midst . There you will find interdenominational prayers on the subject of “praying with the dying” and other texts that are explicitly ecumenical and taken from the broad field of ecumenical Christianity.
