Pat Monaghan

Patricia "Pat" Monaghan (* 1947 ) succeeds Keith Vickerman Regius as Professor of Zoology at the University of Glasgow .

Life

After studying in Glasgow, Monaghan received a Ph.D. awarded by the University of Durham . From 1997 to 2012 Monaghan taught in Glasgow as a professor of animal ecology .

research

Monaghan's research focuses on behavioral and population ecology , with a strong focus on the effects of changing environmental conditions on animals. In 1999, Monaghan conducted research in which it was shown for the first time that influences on the parent animals can influence the sex ratio of the offspring. In the recent past, Monaghan has studied the influence of living conditions in early years on later achievements in life, including the rate of aging.

Honors

In 1997 Monaghan was appointed a Fellow of the Royal Society of Edinburgh . In 2002 she became a Corresponding Fellow of the American Ornithologists Union . In 2004 Monaghan held the Witherby Memorial, in 2005 the Bernard Tucker Memorial and in 2006 the Tinbergen Lectures. In 2009 she was honored with the British Association Science Media Fellowship and in 2011 was appointed a member of the Academia Europaea . She was honored by the European Research Council with the Advanced Investigator Award for researching the relationship between stress and life expectancy .
