Patagonian animal skin armor is a protective weapon used by various indigenous peoples of Patagonia .

description

The well-known Patagonian animal skin armor is made from horse leather and is painted in striking colors such as red, yellow and blue. The armor consists of up to seven layers of horse leather, which makes them very resistant. The upper part is cut similar to a normal shirt or jacket. A collar is worked out on the neck, which extends roughly up to or just above the nose to protect the face. The lower part is cut very wide to offer enough freedom of movement for the legs. The seams made of leather are reinforced on the neck and on the sides of the lower area . Carved bones are used as a needle. Tassels are attached to the corners of the lower area, which are used for decoration. Such armor was used by the Tehuelche and Mapuche ethnic groups in Patagonia. Only four preserved museum specimens are known worldwide.
