Patent certificate

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

A sponsorship certificate is a confirmation from a church parish or parish that a member is entitled to assume the sponsorship office . It is required when godparents are not from the ward where the baptism takes place. A sponsorship certificate is issued by the pastor's office of the parish or parish of the sponsor.

Roman Catholic Church

According to can. 874 para. 3 CIC , the godfather must be Catholic and confirmed . Proof is usually provided by a certificate of baptism issued by the parish in which the godfather was baptized. In the diocese of Trier , a certificate of sponsorship issued by the parish office of the sponsor's current residence has been recognized since 2002.

Protestant churches

The prerequisite for taking on a sponsorship in the Protestant Church is usually that the sponsor is baptized and confirmed or was baptized at the age of religious maturity and is currently also a church member. The corresponding certificate is also referred to as a sponsorship certificate in the Protestant Church . This must be distinguished from the sponsorship letter , which is given to the sponsor at the baptism as a certification of his sponsorship.

Old Catholic Church

With the sponsorship certificate, the parish office confirms that the person named therein is baptized, is a member of the Old Catholic or Christian Catholic Church and is resident in the parish.
