Pathos theater

The Pathos Munich (formerly Pathos transport theater ) is a production and performance location for free theater in the creative quarter on Dachauer Straße . Pathos Munich receives institutional funding from the City of Munich and shows a cross-generational program of theater, dance, performance, music and discursive formats at the two venues Pathos Theater and Schwere Reiter . The theater has been directed by Judith Huber and Lea Ralfs since 2019 . The venue is run by the non-profit association Pathos München e. V.

About the theater

With its program the theater wants to deal artistically with social reality and the setting of boundaries. The aim is a great diversity of the actors involved in terms of age, gender, social origin, religion and disability or non-disability. In addition, young artists who are at the beginning of their careers are supported.

The Pathos is involved in regional, national and international artist networks. It is part of the network of independent theaters, an association of independent venues from different German federal states, which includes the theater discounter Berlin, the Lichthof Theater Hamburg and the Theater Rampe in Stuttgart, and a member of the IETM (International Network for Contemporary Performing Arts).

Pathos Munich works with various partners to promote cultural mediation. It has been a partner theater of TUSCH (Theater and School) Munich since 2019 and initiates various projects with artists at educational institutions. Actresses Chris Hohenester and Rena Dumont run a theater club for young people called “Young Pathos Collectiv” .

history

Heavy rider hall 1

The theater was founded in 1982 by Georges Froscher and Kurt Bildstein as Pathos transport theater in a former repair shop for the city's tram. From 1991 to 2001 the artist Sylvia Panter was in charge. Under the direction of Jörg Witte (2002–2010) and Angelika Fink (2010–2019), the content was realigned and the pathos was now promoted by the community. In the 2000s, Pathos Munich was also known as a techno club beyond the city limits.

Since 2008, Pathos has been programmatically responsible for the theater section of the then newly opened independent scene venue “heavy reiter”, together with Tanztendenz (dance) and Scope (music). The free three-part house is also located on the creative quarter in Munich. A new construction of the heavy reiter is planned a few meters next to the current venue.
