Patient data management system

Patient data management systems , or PDMS for short , are computerized information systems in medical informatics that record and display patient -related information in hospitals.

Hospital management

In the administrative area (e.g. hospital information systems [HIS], hospital operating accounting ), PDMS refers to a part of the higher-level HIS for the central administration and processing of patient and case data.

The main support areas of a PDMS are:

  • Admission, transfer and discharge of patients
  • basic medical and nursing documentation
  • Printing and reading of labels, forms, barcodes etc.
  • Acquisition of billing-relevant data
  • Presentation of data and statistics

Station management

In clinical areas , the genus PDMS denotes various clinical workstation systems adapted for special work areas . Possible characteristics are e.g. B.

  • IMS of an intensive care unit
  • AMS of an anesthesia department.
