Patricia Piccinini
Patricia Piccinini (* 1965 in Freetown , Sierra Leone ) is an Australian artist who tries to raise ethical questions with the help of animal sculptures.
She came to Australia when she was seven and now lives in Melbourne . In 1985-88 she obtained a Bachelor of Arts (Economic History) at the Australian National University , in 1989-91 the Bachelor of Arts (Painting) at the Victorian College of the Arts , where she also taught from time to time.
She uses silicone, plastic and digital photography for her sculptures . She creates artificial animals with which she wants to point to the merging of science, nature and technology in the information age .
She takes part in numerous exhibitions around the world, including the 2003 Venice Biennale . Her 150 centimeter wide plastic idyll with cute monsters became a public favorite there.
