Patrick Donges

Patrick Donges (* 1969 ) is a communication scientist and university professor. Since April 2016 he has been a professor at the University of Leipzig and teaches communication studies at the Institute for Communication and Media Studies. His areas of work include political communication, media policy and media structure. He is the author of 129 publications in various specialist journals and edited volumes. His best-known works include political communication in the media society and medialization of political organizations .

Education

After Donges completed his studies in political science and journalism at the University of Hamburg in 1995 , he received his doctorate in the field of media studies in September 2001 at the University of Zurich. His habilitation, also in the field of journalism, followed in 2007.

Professional background

From 1995 to 1998, Patrick Donges worked as a research assistant in third-party funded projects at the University of Hamburg. In 1998, a position as senior assistant at the Institute for Communication Studies and Media Research at the University of Zurich followed. In 2004, Donges taught at the University of Salzburg in the Department of Communication Studies and the following year as a visiting professor at the University of Vienna at the Institute for Media and Communication Studies.

Since 2008, she has been teaching at various universities, such as the University of Berlin , the University of Greifswald and the University of Leipzig in the areas of communication science and political communication. From 2008 to 2012, Donges was the spokesman for the "Communication and Politics" section of the DGPuk , the German Society for Media and Communication Studies. Since 2019 he has been Managing Director of the Institute for Communication and Media Studies and Vice Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences and Philosophy at the University of Leipzig. His main research interests include political communication, media systems and media governance.
