Patrick Georges Pillay is a politician of the Seychelles .

biography

Pillay became Minister for Education and Culture in the government of President France-Albert René in 1993 and held this ministerial office until 1998. In August 1998, as Minister for Youth and Culture, he was a participant in the World Conference of Youth Ministers. Afterwards he was Minister for Culture and Sport in the René government between 1998 and 2000 and Minister for Industry and International Economy from 2000 to 2001, before becoming Minister of Health in the René government in 2001. He also held the office of Minister of Health from July 14, 2004 to February 12, 2005 in the government of René's successor as President, James Alix Michel .

On February 12, 2005, Pillay was appointed by President James Alix Michel to succeed Jérémie Bonnelame as the new Minister for Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation. In this capacity he was also the governor of the Seychelles in the African Development Bank (ADB) and as such hosted its 43rd annual meeting. On September 2, 2009, he resigned from his post as Foreign Minister, after which President Michel took over this office on September 15, 2009 himself. In the 2015 presidential election , Patrick Pillay ran for the Lalyans Seselwa party for the office of President and came in the first ballot from October 3 to 5, 2015 with 8,593 votes (14.19 percent) after James Michel of the People's Party (28,911 votes, 47 , 76 percent) and Wavel Ramkalawan of the Seychelles National Party (21,391 votes, 35.33 percent) in third place. In the second ballot from December 16 to 18, 2015, Michel was confirmed in his office as president with 31,512 votes (50.15 percent) just ahead of Wavel Ramkalawan (31,319 votes, 49.85 percent).

In the parliamentary elections from September 8 to 10, 2016, Pillay was elected a member of the National Assembly. He then took over the post of speaker of the National Assembly (Speaker of the National Assembly) and thus became the successor of Patrick Herminie Parliament President. On March 6, 2018, Nicholas Prea was elected as his successor as Speaker of the National Assembly .
