Nicholas Gerard Prea (* 7. March 1965 ) is a politician of the Seychelles from the Seychelles National Party , which since 2018 Speaker of the National Assembly is.

Life

After attending Seychelles College in 1985, Nicholas Gerard Prea started working as a telecommunications technician at Cable & Wireless Seychelles Ltd and completed training as a telecommunications engineer at Cable & Wireless Telecom College in Cornwall from 1987 to 1989 and a course in telecommunications and communications in 1990 Fiber optic technology at British Telecom College , Birmingham . After his return to the Seychelles, he worked for the Ministry of Health for three years and subsequently managed Medent Services , a private specialist dental clinic. In 2000 he became deputy manager of the Mason's Travel hotel chain and was also a member of the public service appeal committee until 2002.

Prea began his political career in 2002 when he was first elected a member of the National Assembly for the Seychelles National Party (SNP) in the constituency of Bel Ombre and was re-elected in 2007. During his parliamentary membership he was a member of various committees and ran in the presidential elections from 19 to 21 May 2011 as running mate of Wavel Ramkalawan for the SNP without success for the office of Vice President of the Seychelles. In the parliamentary elections from September 8 to 10, 2016, he was re-elected as a member of the National Assembly and took over the office of Deputy Speaker . He also served as Chairman of the Parliamentary Society in the Commonwealth of Nations and Chairman of the Reform & Modernization Committee .

On March 6, 2018, Nicholas Prea was elected as the successor to Patrick Pillay as Speaker of the National Assembly and is now President of Parliament.
