Patrick Schrooten

Patrick Schrooten (born July 9, 1962 in Hasselt ) is a former Belgian football player .

The midfielder began his career with third division club Hoeselt VV . In 1984 he moved to KFC Verbroedering Geel , with whom he rose to the second division in 1985 . In 1986 he went to league rivals FC Assent and in 1987 to first division club Royal Antwerp . In the very first season he finished third with Antwerp and qualified for the UEFA Cup in 1988/89 . There the club was eliminated in the first round against 1. FC Köln . In the 1989/90 UEFA Cup , Antwerp reached after victories a. a. against Dundee United and VfB Stuttgart the quarter-finals, where they again lost to 1. FC Cologne. In the second leg, however, Schrooten tested positive for ephedrine and banned for one year for doping . In 1992 Royal Antwerp won the Belgian Cup and then the greatest international success in the club's history came when the European Cup Winners' Cup in 1992/93 reached the final, which was then won by FC Parma . However, Schrooten was no longer part of the line-up. In 1994 he ended his career.
