Pattukkottai ( Tamil : பட்டுக்கோட்டை Paṭṭukkōṭṭai [ ˈpaʈːɯˌkːoːʈːɛi̯ ], also Pattukottai ) is a city in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu . The population is around 73,000 (2011 census).

Pattukkottai is located on the edge of the Kaveri Delta in the south of the Thanjavur district . The district capital Thanjavur is 50 kilometers north. The distance to Chennai (Madras), the capital of Tamil Nadu, is 425 kilometers. Pattukkottai is the capital of the talk Pattukkottai .

87 percent of Pattukkottai's residents are Hindus , 8 percent are Muslims and 5 percent are Christians . The main language, as in all of Tamil Nadu, is Tamil, which is spoken by 98 percent of the population as their mother tongue.
