Paul Bernd Spahn

Paul Bernd Spahn (born October 17, 1939 in Darmstadt ) was Professor of Public Finance at the Johann Wolfgang Goethe University in Frankfurt am Main until his retirement in 2005 .

Life

Spahn received his doctorate in economics from the Free University of Berlin in 1972 . After working for the German Institute for Economic Research (DIW) , he was at various universities, including Harvard University , Cambridge, Mass. and the Australian National University , Canberra, as well as the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) . He is an advisor to numerous international organizations such as the United Nations , the International Monetary Fund , the World Bank , the European Commission , the European Parliament and the Council of Europe . He was also a member of the Independent Commission on Funding and Finance for Wales in the UK.

From 1986 to 1987 Spahn was Vice President of the Goethe University in Frankfurt and from September 2006 to June 2008 the first Managing Director of the House of Finance .

His feasibility study on the Tobin tax , published on behalf of the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), on the feasibility of a foreign exchange transaction tax , attracted attention in 2002 .
