Paul Johansen (born May 28, 1910 in Copenhagen - † January 5, 2012 ) was a Danish actuary and manager.

Life

From 1928 Johansen studied actuarial science at the University of Copenhagen , where he studied under Johan Frederik Steffensen and Harald Bohr and was awarded the university's gold medal in 1932. From 1934 he worked at Nye Danske as an actuarial assistant, while doing his doctorate at the Institute for Actuarial Mathematics at Copenhagen University until 1941. After the company merged with Nordisk Brandforsikring in 1973 to form Nye Danske Lloyd, he became chairman of the board. After his retirement in 1977, the company existed independently until 1982, before it became part of the Baltica group .

In addition to his entrepreneurial activities, he distinguished himself in the field of international organization of actuaries and actuarial sciences. Initially, he was a central figure in the Nordic Tariff Organization of Actuaries , founded in 1953 , which provides a transnational platform for actuaries from Norway, Sweden, Finland and Denmark to discuss actuarial methods in tariff development. From this the ASTIN section developed in the late 1950s within the later International Actuarial Association , of which he became the first chairman. He worked in the section's management committee until 1980 and was thus centrally involved in setting the course for the development of the IAA and the ASTIN section, as well as the worldwide dissemination of actuarial methods.
