Paul Meinel

Paul Meinel (born February 15, 1865 in Markneukirchen , † April 28, 1928 in Basel ) was a Swiss violin maker .

Life

Paul Meinel was the son of the guitar maker Karl August Meinel, called "Meinel-Fuchs", and brother of August Meinel . He completed an apprenticeship as a guitar maker in Markneukirchen and as a violin maker with Nicolas Eugène Simoutre (1834–1908) in Basel. He then worked for various well-known violin makers in Germany a. a. with Adolf Hammig in Dresden. When Simoutre left Basel and moved to Paris, Paul Meinel took over his studio in 1889. After his death in 1928, his son-in-law Hugo Schmitz-Meinel took over the business.

Staff and students

Fritz Baumgartner I , August Meinel's former student , worked with him from 1914 to 1920. Karl Walter Meinel (* 1895 in Meran) son of his brother August, worked with him as a journeyman after his apprenticeship. Karl Friedrich Schneider was his student from 1920 to 1923 and then continued to work for him as a journeyman.
