Paul Pauwels

Paul Pauwels (born April 24, 1960 in Merksem ) is a Belgian linguist and translation scholar . He teaches as a university professor at the Catholic University of Leuven (KU Leuven).

Teaching

From 1999 to 2003 Pauwels was head of the department for translation and interpreting at the Lessius Hogeschool in Antwerp , where he held a chair in English from 2006 to 2013. Since 2013 he has been teaching as a professor of English at the philological faculty of the KU Löwen.

Functions and memberships

Pauwels is a member of the board of the CIUTI (International Conference of University Institutes for Interpreters and Translators), of which he is also a member of the executive committee . He is also a member of the education council of the KU Leuven. Until 2010 he was head of the Teacher Training group and the Competence Validation Committee within the University Association KU Leuven . In this role he was involved in various projects aimed at optimizing teaching.

Research priorities

Pauwels is particularly concerned with teaching English as a foreign language. A particular focus is on researching and optimizing the learning of vocabulary when learning a foreign language . Another focus of his work is the field of text linguistics . Pauwels also deals with the development of curricula for foreign language teaching.
