Paul Smolensky
Paul Smolensky (born May 5, 1955 ) is an American linguist and professor of cognitive science at Johns Hopkins University .
Smolensky worked with Alan Prince to develop the theory of optimality , a controversial but influential linguistic theory. In 2005 he was awarded the David E. Rumelhart Prize for his work in cognitive research .
