Paul Young (born June 17, 1947 in Benchill , Manchester , England , † July 15, 2000 in Wythenshawe , Manchester) was a British singer. He is not to be confused and is not related to the soul singer of the same name .

In the 1960s he had his first successes in the German club scene, both solo and with various beat groups such as The Toggery Five . He was then a founding member of the band Sad Café , with the biggest hits Run Home Girl (No. 71 in the US charts ) and Everyday Hurts (No. 3, UK charts ). After the band broke up in 1979, it became quiet around Paul Young until he was again successful as the singer of Mike & the Mechanics from 1985, with hits such as All I Need Is A Miracle or Word Of Mouth .

In the 1980s he (still) released the albums Politics of Existing (1985) and Whatever it takes (1989) with Sad Café .

Young died of a heart attack in his home on July 15, 2000. In 2011, his only solo album, Chronicles , was released posthumously , which consists of unreleased material.
