Critic's opinions on the picture plates that Paul Zimmerling showed in 1956 in the exhibition “Painting, Plastic, Ceramic” in Frankfurt a. M. showed:

“Also interesting from the processing of the material are the wire inlaid panels by Paul Zimmerling, who in some compositions advances to the point of complete detachment from the representational. Zimmerling is the most experimental artist in this group. Wandering imagination and a strong rhythmic feeling seem to almost overcome the heaviness of the material. "

“On the panels by Paul Zimmerling, black and white contours collide hard where it is desired. The glazes flow softly inside unconventionally proportioned surfaces, interlocking, dissolving again. In addition, there is an already formed material, the wire, which is bent and processed according to the surface contour. (...) The colors are of an intensity that is unusual in ceramic circles. "
