Paulus Bagellardus

Paulus Bagellardus (also: Paolo Bagellardi , sometimes with the suffix 'a Flumine' or 'de Flumine') was an Italian doctor of the late Middle Ages .

Bagellardus was born between 1410 and 1420 and died between 1492 and 1494. The place of birth is unclear. From 1441 he was professor of philosophy in Padua and from 1458 he held a chair for medicine . He probably died in Venice .

He is the author of an important work on pediatrics , the Libellus de egritudinibus infantium of 1472. This work was the first printed pediatric book. It was written in Latin and was primarily intended for medical professionals. The compendium consists of two parts. The first part describes the care of the baby from birth to the first month of life, including the swaddling and bandaging techniques that should be performed. The second part, consisting of 22 chapters, deals with various children's diseases.
