Pawel Jakowlewitsch Franz ( Russian Павел Яковлевич Франц ; born April 1, 1968 in Syktywkar , Russian SFSR , Soviet Union ) is a former Soviet and now Russian bandy player . He plays on the defensive or libero position .

Franz first played in his hometown with Stroitel Syktywkar . In his last season with this club, he was Russian runner-up. In 1993 he moved to Sweden to IFK Vänersborg . He stayed with Vänersborg for ten years before he returned to Russia at the age of 35 and was initially under contract with Wodnik Archangelsk for two years , where he won the Russian championship twice and the World Cup in 2004. From 2005 to 2010 he played for Dynamo Moscow and won five national championships and two World Cups with this club. He has been playing for HK Dynamo Kazan since 2010 and has since won the Russian championship and the World Cup again.

He made his debut for the national team in 1990 . Since then he has won the World Bandy Championship seven times (1991, 1999, 2001, 2006, 2007, 2008 and 2011).
