Öster-Malma Castle

Öster-Malma Castle is a magnificent building in the Swedish municipality of Nyköping in the historic province of Södermanland . It lies on the small lake Malmasjön near the highway ( Swedish county road ) 223. It is as Byggnadsminne and as a Swedish national interest registered.

The main building has three floors and four side wings. It was built in 1668 by order of General Customs Master Wilhelm Böös Drakenhielm based on drawings by the architect Jean de la Vallée . Today, Öster-Malma is the headquarters of the Swedish Hunters Association with conference rooms and courses on nature conservation. There is also a restaurant with game dishes.

The noble families Bååt, Sifverstjerna, Drakenhielm, Stackelberg and Groen are among the owners who have had the estate since the 17th century . From 1900 it was upgraded under the office of Hugo Tigerschiöld. The last private owner sold the castle to the Swedish state in 1944. The hunters' association established itself in the castle in 1946 and in 1993 bought the entire complex. After another renovation in 2003, the main office as well as the conference and training rooms were inaugurated.
