Jean de la Vallée
Jean de la Vallée (* 1624 in France , † 1696 in Stockholm ) was one of Sweden's most important architects in the second half of the 17th century. He was royal architect from 1691, Stockholm mayor from 1671, Stockholm city architect from 1680 and was ennobled in 1692.
Jean de la Vallée was born around 1620 to the architect Simon de la Vallée and came to Sweden with his father as a child. After training by his father and study trips to Italy and France , he was called back to Sweden in 1650. He was entrusted with orders for the expansion of Stockholm, among other things he created the Oxenstiernska Palace and the Bondeska Palace , directed the construction of the knight's house designed by his father and built the Katarina Church and the Hedvig Eleonora Church in Stockholm. Among his castles, the Karlberg , Venngarn and Runsa castles are the most important, for which he also created gardens based on the French model.
