The Swedish Rosersberg Castle is located near the village of Rosersberg about 30 km north of Stockholm .

Rosersberg Castle was built on behalf of the Imperial Treasurer Gabriel Bengtsson Oxenstierna in the years 1634–1638. It consists of a three-story main building and four two-story side wings. In the 1680s and 1690s it was built according to plans by the architect Nicodemus Tessin the Elder. J. rebuilt in baroque style. In 1762 it came into the possession of Duke Karl . Duke Karl had the castle rebuilt again, and his successor Karl XIV. Johann had it furnished in the Empire style . Also an English landscape parkwas created. The palace then served as a royal pleasure palace until 1860 and was inhabited by Queen Desideria from 1823. After the death of the royal widow Desideria , the main building was no longer inhabited, was for a time the seat of an artillery school and is now used by the Swedish fire brigade . The furnishings from this period are extremely well preserved and are one of the finest examples of Empire style in Sweden.

In 1935 the castle was placed under state protection as Byggnadsminne .

Rosersberg Palace is still one of the nine official royal castles in Sweden, all of which are visible at least in part: The Stockholm Royal Palace (the official residence of the King), Drottningholm Palace (residence of the King), Rosendal Palace , Gripsholm Castle , strömsholm palace , Schloss Tullgarn , Castle Ulriksdal , the Hagapark (Haga Castle is the residence of the Crown Princess) and the park of the royal summer villa Solliden , which was built near Borgholm Castle , which has only survived as a ruin .
