The Ulriksdal Castle stands in the town of Solna in Stockholm . It is one of the ten royal castles in Sweden.

The castle stands directly on the west bank of the Edsviken branch of the Baltic Sea in the municipality of Solna north of Stockholm. The complex, including buildings and parks, has been part of the Ekoparken National City Park since 1994 .

history

The castle was built between 1643 and 1645 under the name Jacobsdal for the Reichsmarschall Jakob De la Gardie . In 1684 it was named after a deceased brother of Charles XI. renamed Ulriksdal.

It was bought by Queen Hedwig Eleonora in 1669 . The castle was still owned by King Gustav VI. Adolf lived in until 1973. Occasionally even today King Carl XVI. Stop Gustaf in the park and paint.

The castle also includes a herb garden, an orangery , which today contains a sculpture museum, a castle chapel and Sweden's oldest rococo theater ( Ulriksdals slottsteater or Confidensen ). In the stable you can see Christina's coronation carriage. In 1935 the castle was placed under state protection as Byggnadsminne . The World Wide Fund for Nature Sweden has its office in a southern wing.

Sweden's oldest rococo theater, Confidencen, is located in Ulriksdal . It was inaugurated in 1753 and also used by Gustav III. as well as Carl Michael Bellman used. It fell into oblivion and was only awakened from its slumber by the opera singer Kjerstin Dellert in the 1980s . Today it is a popular summer theater with operas, ballet and concert performances. The theater is also a station on the Nordic Route of the European Route of Historic Theaters .
