World Bandy Championship

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Men's World Championships in Bandy have been held by the FIB since 1957 .

After the second World Championship took place in Bandy four years after the first, the World Championship was played every two years from 1961 onwards. A world championship has been held every year since 2003.

Due to the increasing number of participants, a B group has also been played since 1991, and a C group for the first time in 2012. 2013 was played again in the mode with an A and a B world championship. In 2014, a higher-ranking A group and a B group were played in both the A and B world championships. A new record was set with 17 participating nations.

Participating Nations

In 1957, only three countries took part in the premiere in Helsinki, Finland. FIB founding member Norway boycotted the tournament due to the interference of the Soviet Union in the 1956 uprisings in Hungary . Norway boycotted the tournament again in 1969 due to the crackdown on the Prague Spring . Ukraine boycotted in 2015 because of the Russian annexation of Crimea .

The United States has been participating in the tournament since 1985. Various nations have participated in the tournament since 1991, including Kazakhstan, which has won five bronze medals since 2003.
