The 20th Bandy World Cup was on 1. February bis 9. February 1997 in Sweden held. The hosts won the tournament ahead of Russia and Finland.
The tournament was organized by the Swedish King Carl XVI. Gustaf opened. A total of 53,975 spectators attended the 25 games, including over 10,000 for the Sweden vs. Russia final in Västerås .
Game mode
The nine teams were classified according to their strength in an A (5 teams) and a B group (4 teams). The first two of the A group automatically qualified for the semi-finals. The third and fourth of group A had to play a game against the first and second of group B, the winner of which would also qualify for the semifinals.
Venues
The game was played in several locations in Sweden. In addition to Västerås , the venue for the final and the third place match, games were played in Stockholm , Köping , Fagersta , Katrineholm , Vänersborg , Otterbäcken , Trollhättan , Grängesberg , Slottsbron , Skövde and Sandviken .
