Stabekk is a centrally located village in the municipality of Bærum in Norway and is located west of Oslo . The European route E18 runs south of Stabekk and it lies southeast of Lysaker and east of Jar . To the north it borders on Bekkestua and to the southeast on Store Stabekk, and to the west on a golf course and meadows and agricultural areas.

history

Stabekk was first mentioned in a document in 1398 under the name Stadbæk, etymologically formed from stadir calm, on the quietly flowing brook bekken . Stabekk is largely on land of former (agriculturally operated) monastic estates, below the main island, which became a royal crown property after the introduction of Protestantism in Denmark-Norway in 1537 . In 1647 the farmer Hans Stabech bought the land and after his death a steady expansion of the settlement began.

The present Stabekk with the districts Store Stabekk, Østre Stabekk, Øvre Stabekk (later named Ringstabekk after the privateer Jens Ring ) and a little further north Skallum was made from the former areas . In the rural outskirts, on the route between Drammen and Skallum, are the oldest surviving buildings in Stabekk.

Between 1870 and 1872 Stabekk was connected to the Drammenbane route network, which gave the whole area an upswing. At that time, the railway company bought large areas of land in the region from the surrounding farms in order to build the railway line, stations and stops. After the final route was known, the remaining areas were parceled out in order to build apartments for railway workers and for railway employees and their families who came from the surrounding areas.

In this way, affordable housing options were created in the immediate vicinity of Oslo. The station building was built and opened around 1902. The connection of Stabekk to the railway led to a further settlement of shops, as well as the post office, doctor, dentist etc. Before the Second World War , Stabekk was a rather rural area, which was used by the residents of the capital for summer retreat, relaxation and vacation.

The center of Stabbekk was expanded further in the 1930s and after the Second World War, giving it its current appearance. Furthermore, Stabekk developed into a kind of Oslo suburban settlement .
