German bandy national team of men

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The German men's national bandy team represents Germany in international bandy competitions.

history

The German Bandy Association was admitted to the Federation of International Bandy in June 2013 . The first game after the re-establishment took place on September 28, 2013 at a friendship tournament in the Rinkbandy in Nijmegen . Most of the players are of Russian descent. At the end of January 2014, the team took part in the World Bandy Championship in Irkutsk. Starting in group B of the B World Cup, there was a victory over Somalia, a draw against Japan and two defeats against Mongolia and Ukraine in the group stage. In the B-World Cup quarter-finals, Germany lost 3: 9 to Latvia. With a final 5: 4 over Ukraine, Germany was 15th out of 17 participants.

At the B-WM 2016, the team was able to confidently finish the group stage with 3 wins. After two more victories in the quarter and semi-finals against China and Ukraine, respectively, Hungary waited as opponents in the final. This game could be won 5: 4, which means that Germany qualified for the A-World Cup for the first time in 2017. As expected, Germany lost to the USA and Norway in the group stage of the 2017 A-World Cup. The group game against Belarus was only lost in the penalty shootout. Germany then met Sweden in the quarter-finals, which resulted in their biggest defeat to date. With a 12: 7 win in the final relegation game against Belarus, Germany secured their place in the A-World Cup.

Given the lack of bandy ice rinks in Germany, the team trains on ice hockey springs and takes part in rink bandy tournaments.
