Mike Fahn

Michael Jeff Fahn (* 16th December 1960 in Queens , New York City ) is an American jazz - valve trombone , along with baritone horn player and jazz singer .

Mike Fahn grew up in Huntington (New York) and started playing drums; his father was a drummer for Lionel Hampton and Tex Beneke . At the age of twelve he switched to the valve trombone as the main instrument. In 1977 he moved to Los Angeles with his parents; from 1978 to 1982 he worked with Frank Strazzeri and Don Menza , and in 1984 with Dick Berk . He then had groups of his own with Bob Sheppard , Tad Weed and John Patitucci , whose sister he later married. In the 1980s he also played with Bob Cooper , Conte Candoli , Pete Christlieb, and Shorty Rogers ; 1989-91 he was a member of Maynard Ferguson's band , with whom he went on tour. In 1989 a first album was released under his own name ( Steppin 'Out ); In the early 1990s, he worked for Terry Gibbs , Bill Holman , Woody Herman , Kim Richmond , Louie Bellson, and Dick Berk. In 1993 he returned to New York City with his wife, bassist Mary Ann McSweeney , played in the big bands of Toshiko Akiyoshi and Loren Schoenberg ; from 1994 he worked as a freelance musician and worked a. a. on Tom Harrell's album Time's Mirror (1999) and Andrew Hills album A Beautiful Day (2002).
